Stories of Wolfdog Ownership: Angie & Rocky

Rocky was a wolfdog that was transferred to us from our local humane society. He came from a prolific backyard breeder that we had rescued many wolfdogs from. Rocky came to us with many medical challenges and behavioural challenges. But with time and patience, Rocky became one of our best ambassador wolfdogs. Angie had a very special relationship with Rocky and it was clear she was his human. Once Rocky reached an age where living outdoors was no longer feasible for him, Angie adopted him and brought him into her home. He spent 6 months with her before passing due to his failing health.

In this interview, Angie and I cover a lot of ground. We talk about how she got involved with the Sanctuary and wolfdogs. What surprised her about wolfdog ownership as well as some of her biggest challenges. We go a little off plan and talk about wolves in the wild and why they need more people to advocate for them. We discuss how wolfdogs have an incredible ability to reflect back on us who we really are and what we are going through. We finish off with a very emotional and sobering ending where we discuss the harsh reality of losing our wolfdogs we love so dearly.
